In a nutshell

A glorious culturally conscious afternoon for the whole family featuring live music, cinema, dance, games, workshops and the best of vibes.

Go on...

Each month we feature a different live act with African connections, DJ Sets from Rita Ray and Max Reinhardt and African cinema hosted by ScreenStation's Andy Jones

Our musical headline act this month is Kadialy Kouyate 4Tet, a totally inspired and inspiring singer/songwriter. Born into the great line of Kouyate Griots in Southern Senegal, Kadialy’s mesmerising kora playing and singing styles have been much loved in many prestigious venues as both a soloist and in different ensembles.

This month's screening is a very special preview of a new BBC4 series, AFRICA: A Journey into Music. Presented by our very own Rita Ray, and directed by Ruhi Hamid (2018) (PG). We'll be screening Rita's journey to South Africa which sees her crossing paths and swapping stories with a host of old timers and upcoming stars.

Babies / Toddlers / Kids and parents dance sessions with Lucy Angell John.

Hone your Oware skills with Seth and the junior pebble demons.

Dom's cd stall.

Little Baobab African street food fresh from the pot.

Plus all your favourite market stalls!

Talk, dance, clap, cheer, drink, eat, and share a celebration of African culture...

What to Expect

There are two live sets  from the visiting artist every session followed by a film, a feature or a selection of shorts. The dance workshop for kids goes on from 2 till 4 and there are Oware board games led by teachers from the Oware Society each session.

Every month: DJ sets and hosting from Rita Ray (BBC World Service) and Max Reinhardt (Late Junction BBC Radio3). Family activities, stalls from Open the Gate The African Market, Dom’s CD Stall, face painting and portraiture, and other surprises on a monthly basis. The Richest Mix at Rich Mix for sure!

Why does Rich Mix matter?

'It's an oasis where community still matters a, where local voices can be heard and where local artists and practitioners from all over London can find a space and a platform for their work.'
