The Rich Mix Scholarship - A place at Escape Studios up for grabs!

Have you ever dreamed of a career in the arts, but no idea where to start? We may just have the answer.  

For the first time Rich Mix has teamed up with Escape Studios to launch an exclusive scholarship. One budding filmmaker can be in with the chance of bringing characters to life, with the art of animation and storyboarding, on a fully paid scholarship at Escape Studios.

Escape Studios is Europe's premier VFX, animation, games and motion graphics academy. It takes students with raw talent and big aspirations shaping them into creative professionals demanded by today’s employers. Escape Studios has graduated thousands of students worldwide, helping them into careers spanning the entire creative spectrum. Now it can be your turn to go behind the scenes and join them with the Rich Mix scholarship. 

How to Enter

To get involved and apply for the scholarship, email Escape@alfredlondon.com with ‘Rich Mix Scholarship’ in the subject field. Please include your full name, age, name of school/college, and your contact details.

Upon emailing entrants will be informed of their place in the competition and can commence crafting their entry.  Deadline for final entries is 20th January 2017.

Entry Requirements

Entrants must be over-18 and pupils attending school in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Those entrants who already pre-registered to take part in the competition before the 5th December, from wider boroughs may also take part. All entrants must have the right to study in the UK.

Brief for Entry

All entrants must submit a piece of creative work; this can be in a format of the entrant’s choosing. It can include a short film, animation, or a piece of creative photography or artwork. Entrants will also be required to submit an overview outlining exactly how the piece of work has been produced, and why they believe it is a winning contender.

The shortlisted entrants will be invited to attend the VFX Festival 2017, where their work will be showcased in front of our stellar line-up of judges, who will announce the chosen winner.

General Competition Rules and T&Cs

Time Period & Submission

  1. The Rich Mix Scholarship at Escape Studios competition activity launched on (update on launch) 2016, with all final entries to be submitted by 20th January 2017.
  2. The final shortlisted entrants will be invited to attend the VFX Festival 2017, during 7th – 9th February 2017, where their work will be showcased in the education area. The panel will judge and announce the final winner at the VFX Festival 2017. 
  3. Only entries submitted before the deadline will be officially part of the competition.
  4. Prospective entrants can register for the competition by emailing Escape@alfredlondon.com, when they will be informed of their place in the competition
  5. All entrants must submit a piece of creative work; this can be in a format of the entrant’s choosing. Possible formats include (but are not limited to) a short film, animation, or a piece of creative photography or artwork.
  6. Participants need to submit their piece of work by 20th January via the email Escape@alfredlondon.com
  7. In addition to submitting their piece of work, all entrants are required to submit an overview outlining exactly how the piece of work has been produced, and why they believe it is a winning contender.
  8. Individuals are required to provide up to date contact details with their submission.

 

Content that can be included

  1. By entering the competition, entrants will agree to grant a non-exclusive worldwide perpetual license to Pearson College London, Escape Studios and Rich Mix for the use of all content across websites and social media.
  2. It is permissible for pieces of work to include photographs and pre-recorded music; however, the entrant must have the rights to any third party material used in its entry, royalty free and these rights will also need to be transferable to Escape Studios and Rich Mix so the content can be shared on accompanying websites and social media. By accepting these terms, the entrant confirms this to be the case.

General Rules

  1. The content submitted into the competition must adhere to the following requirements:
    1. Must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe any third-party’s rights or ownership.  Participants agree that Escape Studios, Pearson College London and Rich Mix will not accept any liability on behalf of participants in this regard.
    2. All entries must be suitable for publication on mainstream media and social media websites, and not contain obscene or indecent material.
    3. All entries must not contain obscene or pornographic material, and may not contain defamatory statements about any person, company, organisation or entity.
    4. The production of the entry must not invade privacy or other rights of any person, company or entity.
    5. All entries must not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations; and may not contain any copyrighted elements not owned by the team.
    6. Entries containing prohibited or inappropriate content as determined by Escape Studios, in its sole discretion, to be inappropriate will be disqualified.
  2. Escape Studios, Pearson College London and Rich Mix may add to or amend these rules at any time prior to the beginning of the competition period, without informing the participants. Please refer back to the website prior to the launch date and check the rules before creating your submission.
  3. The submissions will be judged by a panel of experts and the winner will be announced at the VFX Festival 2017.
  4. Individuals can only enter the competition once.
  5. The decision of the judges is final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome of the Prize awarded.
  6. The prize is non-transferable, and no cash alternative is available. The Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize for one of equal or greater value.
  7. Individuals must submit a signed T&Cs agreement when sending their entry. This document will be sent to individuals via email at the beginning of the competition. The entry will not be judged until the document is signed and received before the first day of the VFX Festival 7th February.
  8. The chosen winner must agree to Escape Studios T&Cs on classroom registration in order to enroll at their chosen course at Escape Studios. This document will be shared with the winner via email
  9. The Promoter reserves the right to terminate, amend or extend this competition in the event of exceptional circumstances outside its control, which affect its ability to operate the competition.
  10. The entrant must be over-18 and have a good understanding of written and spoken English, ideally to International English Language Testing System (IELTS) level 6.0, and feel comfortable using a computer in order to take the resulting course. A working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop would be an advantage.
  11. Entrants must be pupils attending school in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Those entrants who already pre-registered to take part in the competition before the 5th December, from wider boroughs may also take part. All entrants must have the right to study in the UK.
  12. In administering this promotion, the Promoter will not collect more of your personal information than absolutely necessary and will only use your personal information for the purposes of this promotion.
  13. The rules of this competition shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and the courts of England shall have exclusive jurisdiction in relation to any disputes arising therefrom.

  15. Prize package for the winner is as follows:

One Scholarship course with Escape Studios to be chosen by the winner from the following two options:

  • Animation: full-time, 5 days a week for 12 weeks from 27 February 2017 to 24 May 2017
  • Storyboarding: part-time, 8 weeks of Tuesday evening classes from 21 March 2017 to 04 July 2017, followed by 8 weeks of online mentoring.

 

FAQs

Is there a registration fee or any costs involved?

The Rich Mix Scholarship competition is free to enter and does not require any entry fees.  Participants bear their own costs of and for any materials and other resources used in and for the competition, including any submission and preparation.
