European East Enders presents
Takeover 2018: Journey to the West
Sunday 5 August
This interactive workshop explores the concept of Eastern Europeans living abroad, and their tendency to camouflage their national identity.
European East Enders’ journey has become a very typical story for many Eastern Europeans students in London. Having moved to London thirsty for new experiences, and most importantly not being aware of cultural shock, younger generations now face two extremes. On one hand, they experience complete immersion in Western British culture, and on the other, they cultivate national identity and hardly integrate into the new environment.
Where is the middle point? How do you find a balance and become a global citizen, but not forget about your roots?
As a part of a post-EU generation that grew up with a concept of an easy travel and fluent cultural exchange between countries, their identity questions might get tricky. This workshop will be a starting point to question what’s next for this generation and how to contribute towards shifting the perception of Eastern Europeans abroad.
