In a nutshell
Spoken word artist Amani Saeed celebrates the publication of her first book, Split, and you’re invited!
Come celebrate the launch of Amani’s book with good food, good music, good people, and most importantly, good poetry.
Published with Burning Eye, Split is Amani’s debut collection of poetry. One half is about what it means to be a constant other, what it means to be perceived as both a foreigner and a westerner, a Muslim who is ‘not Muslim enough’. The other half is about abuse and the aftermath: trauma, healing, and learning how to love differently. Both halves are about coming to terms with a patchwork self that is forever being split and stitched back together.
What to Expect
Expect sets from the author and some of her closest friends and inspirations, encompassing the best spoken word and music she has to offer. Books will be available for purchase, as will prints of illustrations designed by Sophie Leary from the collection. The trailer for Split will also be premiered.
Amani Saeed is a spoken word artist from London. She’s worked with the Roundhouse, BBC 1Xtra, and the Huffington Post. Her work, which tackles issues such as Islamophobia and abuse, is described as ‘electric,’ ‘strident,’ and ‘brave.’ She helped found the Yoniverse and hosts its open mic night, Golden Tongue.
