In a nutshell

Documentary screening followed by a conversation exploring how the last century has impacted the physical and cultural landscapes of Warsaw today.

Go on...

Continuing EUTOPIA, our new series investigating what it means to be European, we bring into focus Warsaw, in collaboration with the Polish Cultural Institute. We will be watching Tomasz Wolski’s extraordinary documentary The Palace, on the both loathed and admired Palace of Culture and Science, as a way into a discussion to explore the physical and cultural impact that communism, followed by 25 years of life in Europe have had on Warsaw today. We’ll be joined by guests including artist Katarzyna Krakowiak, whose work explores sculpture and architecture with the use of sound in particular, Kaja Pawelek, academic and senior curator at Warsaw's Centre of Contemporary Art, and Owen Hatherley, author of the brand-new Trans-Europe Express, a searching, timely account of the condition of contemporary Europe, told through the landscapes of its cities.

What to Expect

Lively conversation. Film screening. Live music.
