In a nutshell
Loud Poets promise poetry for the masses – and they delivered with aplomb: a slick show that is far more than a poetry reading.
This is slam-style, make some noise, fist-thumping, pint-drinking, side-tickling, heart-wrenching poetry.
This is poetry for the masses.
This is the spoken word revolution.
What to Expect
A high-octane performance from an immensely talented group of poets, this event also features live music, audience participation and a different big-name guest spoken-word artist each night.
Loud Poets are a collective of Scottish musicians and spoken word artists known for their high-octane, tightly-crafted events where music, words and comedy hit the stage. From STV and BBC to TEDx and with performances across Britain, Prague and the U.S.A, the Loud Poets are a force to be reckoned with, creating a dynamic blend of performance and writing.
Since breaking into the scene in August 2013, Kevin has helped to build Loud Poets and has become a prominent performer throughout Scotland. In 2014 he was a finalist at the BBC Fringe Slam and is current Glasgow Slam Champion. Kevin competed in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Scottish National Slam Championships.. His poem Evelyn performed at the 2015 Loud Poets Edinburgh Fringe show, won StAnza Best Poem of the Fringe. Mclean released his first collection and CD, Learning to Write, in August 2015.
Another core founder of Loud Poets, Doug is an up-and-coming voice in the Scottish spoken word scene. He was captain of the winning 2014 Edinburgh University UniSlam team, a winner of the Edinburgh University Literature Society Slam and was on the 2016 winning UniSlam team, performing at CUPSI in Texas. In 2016, he supported three-time world slam champion, internationally acclaimed poet Buddy Wakefield as part of his worldwide tour. Doug has published two poetry collections - Poems and 30 Night Sketches.
Poet and scholar, Katie placed second in the 2015 Scottish National Poetry Slam and has performed across the U.K., including at the StAnza and Wickerman festivals, The Edinburgh International Book Festival and St. Mungo’s Mirrorball. She is a former co-editor of Quotidian literary magazine and is currently co-piloting the Scottish Poetry Library Ambassadors programme. She co-edited the anthology Aiblins: New Scottish Political Poetry (Luath Press, 2016). Katie’s first collection, Homing, was published in 2015, and included in the House of Three anthology series in 2016. Katie is currently being mentored by Liz Lochhead through the 2015-16 Clydebuilt programme.

‘Loud Poets promise poetry for the masses – and they delivered with aplomb. This is big, this is bold, this is loud (unsurprisingly). A slick show that is far more than a poetry reading – Loud Poets have an undeniable passion and energy’ -Fringe Review
