In a nutshell
Anandadhara Arts presents this unique musical event of melodies from Rabindranath Tagore and Salil Chowdhury.
Salil Chowdhury - the 'Mozart of Bengal', was a prolific writer and composer. In his early age he composed songs for freedom movements of India and later composed music for films. He has enormous contribution for children’s music as well. His songs for children were recorded by his daughter Antara Chowdhury and were a huge hit amongst all age group in Bengal. They are full of Colour, Humour, Rhythm and Melody. ‘Children’s Salil’ will present some of these magnificent songs together with poetry and dance to create a magical atmosphere by the children.
Rabindranath Tagore, the first non-English Nobel laurite in literature in 1913, is considered as the father of modern Bengali Culture. He composed more than 2200 Songs and has been the pillar in Bengali Cultural movement. His patriotic songs inspired millions of Bengalese in the Independence movement in 1971. ‘Tagore and Freedom Movement’ is a tribute to this greatest composer at the eve of Independence Day of Bangladesh (26 March). The evening will also feature poetry, dance and music.
What to Expect
The first half of the programme is ‘Children’s Salil’- presented and performed by the younger students of Anandadhara Arts and Satyen Sen School of Performing Arts. The programme will feature individual and chorus songs, poetry and dance with the magical melodies and rhythm of Salil Chowdhury to create an atmosphere of Love, joy and Harmony.
‘Tagore in Freedom Movement’ will present the inspiring patriotic Songs by Rabindranath Tagore that motivated the Bengali Freedom Movement. It will feature Poetry, Songs and Dances by students of Anandadhara Arts and SSPA as a tribute to the greatest composer of Bengal. The universal appeal of Freedom and Humanity through Tagore’s magnificent poetic and musical expression is still very modern and relevant.
Anandadhara Arts has been at the forefront of multicultural movements in UK since 2004. This prestigious organization has been performing and organizing various musical programmes in venues including Barbican Centre, Richmix and Varatiya Vidya Bhaban. The organization has been involved in teaching Indian music specially Tagore songs and has been running adult and children classes regularly.
Satyen Sen School of Performing Arts and Udichi have been involved in promoting Bengali and Indian cultural activities since 1978. This organisation regularly runs schools for music, dance, drama and poetry and has got more than 100 students actively involved. The students also performed in prestigious UK venues including Southbank, Richmix and Varatiya Vidya Bhaban. It regularly takes part in various musical and cultural festivals and has been at the forefront of multicultural social movements in UK.
