In a nutshell
This trio of influential English players Justin Adams (Robert Plant’s guitarist and co-writer) Lu Edmonds (PIL guitarist) and Ben Mandelson make a very rare appearance.
Distressed string band music for the 21st century. An extremely rare live performance by the triabolos of dustcore. Each member of the group is a multi-intrumentalist, record producer and serial collaborator. Their album rivermudtwilight was a critical smash when released on World Village in 2009.
What to Expect
This is a must-see show for all those who delight in that acoustic-electric territory where blues, Americana, middle-eastern, oriental, folk and Russian all roam freely. Their unique combination of instruments and multilingual harmonised singing give flight to mostly original songs, with a few choice covers such the Prisoners’ song in Russian. All delivered in full twi-fi.
JUSTIN ADAMS is one of the UK’s most original and inspirational guitarists. Pioneering work in the early ’90s with Jah Wobble’s Invaders of the Heart; production on three albums by French band LO’JO and 2 albums by guitar-poets Tinariwen, recording and touring with Sinead O’Connor & Natacha Atlas; co-writing an album for Real World with Ali Slimani, and since 2001 guitarist and co-writer for Robert Plant’s band. A fan of Mediaeval art, North African cultures, Delta blues and Jackson Pollock, Justin’s individual style has also led him to work with Brian Eno, Hector Zazou, Peter Gabriel and The Indigo Girls,.
LU EDMONDS started out in 1977 in the Summer of Punk playing with The Damned during their lost psychedelic phase. Is still playing in Johnny Rotten's PiL, The Mekons, and Shriekback and in the past with Billy Bragg, Yat-Kha, The Waterboys , Kirsty MacColl and 3 Mustaphas 3. Godson to the legendary free saxophonist Lol Coxhill. A player of many instruments - guitars, bass, piano/keyboards, Turkish saz and cümbüş (and some home-made variants: tarbüş, tenorbüş, bassbüş and violbüş) as well as Arabic oud, darbuka, mazhar and various other flutes drums, and bagpipes.
BEN MANDELSON is well-known as a leading freelance record producer working in all areas of world music. He was the co-founder and A&R manager / house producer for the influential GlobeStyle Records label. A core member of proto-world-music godparents the 3 Mustaphas 3, and founding director of the premier world music tradefair WOMEX. Earlier played in the legendary Magazine, as african guitar stylist in Orchestra Jazira. Coaxed back to touring and recording by Billy Bragg, he is a string-twanging member of Billy’s fabulous orchestra The Blokes.
