In a nutshell

A big band refreshing the very idea of a big band - one of the most original and vibrant ensembles of its type.

Go on...

Ben Cottrell’s free-wheeling big band continues to occupy a very special place in today’s UK jazz scene, enthusing audiences throughout Europe amidst a succession of awards and critical acclaim.

Their EFG London Jazz Festival performance trails their tenth birthday in 2018, featuring new music reflecting the diversity of music that surrounds them, with Cottrell’s inspired writing influenced as much by Michael Jackson, Björk or Radiohead as by Duke Ellington, Gil Evans or Loose Tubes.

What to Expect

The Beats & Pieces big band is one like no other – energetic, vibrant and hard-rocking; a band who happen to be big, rather than a traditional big band

What people are saying

'A big band for modern times' (Jamie Cullum)

‘Energetic, hard-rocking big band ride again’ (**** The Guardian)
