1947. Danylo Chervonyi, Commander of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) is arrested and sent to a distant gulag camp somewhere in the Urals. He goes through the hell of the inhumane prison conditions, prosecution by the criminal leaders, meanness, betrayal and despair. Chervonyi eventually finds the strength to resist from the camp commander Mayor Abramov and makes a desperate attempt to break free, leading an uprising.
