In a nutshell

All power to the fidget-spinners! A children’s eye view of what the Russian Revolution was all about with Michael Rosen and friends.

Go on...

Throughout the 20th century, the Russian Revolution had a powerful effect on a section of the population not usually included in political accounts of the time: children. Young children receive books and culture largely through the filter of their parents and of course this applies to socialist parents too. In an upcoming book, Kimberley Reynolds, Jane Rosen and Michael Rosen have looked at the books, magazines and live entertainment inspired by the aims of revolution socialist and libertarian parents and carers shared with children between 1900 and 1960 . Directly or indirectly much of this was affected by events in Russia.  Our live and unique show, 'Children of the Revolution', features the three authors reading and talking about some of these.

Specially commissioned by Philosophy Football for the centenary of the October 1917 centenary.

What to Expect

Opening with a cartoon film ‘Red Russia’ with illustrations by Tim Sanders who drew the graphic novel about 1917 of the same name.

Michael Rosen, Jane Rosen and Kimberley Reynolds will share the children’s books from 1917 and after via readings, visuals and performance.

There will be a q&a for children to find out more about 1917.

And afterwards a book signing with Michael Rosen, bookstall supplied by Brick Lane Books.
