Fun Palaces is a movement that believes everyone is an artist and everyone a scientist. In 2016 a group of residents created the Boundary Estate Fun Palace.

The programme for the day:

From 12pm:

  • Throughout the day you can take part in a range of arts and crafts, play board games and let your imagination soar by designing and making paper planes and flying creatures! During the afternoon, join Harvey Wells from QMUL and his giant game of operation, where you can be the patient, and Hehpzi Tagoe from QMUL who will show you the wonder of worms with ‘worm hunters’.
  • Members of the Royal College of Pathologists present interactive health activities all to do with the digestive system. We know that the food we eat eventually ends up as, well, poo! But do you know just how much information our poo holds?
  • The Linnean Society, the world’s oldest biological organisation, guide you through making stop-motion animation and print making.
  • Help design wall art – share your thoughts and ideas, help them take form and put yourself in the picture.
  • Twenty members of the London Euphonia Orchestra will put you through your paces at conducting and singing. Get a head start on Saturday, when a few of the orchestra’s members will be at St. Hilda’s. (Ends 2pm)
  • More than Minutes – Visual Minutes. Be sure to check out artist Jonny Glover documenting the day and exploring questions: What do you value most in your community? What are the ingredients of a good life?
  •  Re-imagine Boundary/Shoreditch: If you had unlimited money, how would you change your local area.

From 2pm: 

  • 2pm: Join Thrive LDN in their problem solving booths as they encourage people to have conversations about everyday mental health and wellbeing. They will also be inviting visitors of all ages to respond creatively to the booths and the idea of ‘helper’ & ‘helped’.
  • 2pm: Love reading? Join the ‘East End Book Club’ with Nadia Valman from Queen Mary, University of London! Come and find out about Eastenders in literature over the last two centuries. Discussion encouraged; no prior knowledge required. (Until 2.45pm)
