In a nutshell
Exhibition of sketches, original drawings and prints of finished illustrations depicting Syrian refugees.
Reportage illustrations with texts portraying Syrian Refugees that artist Olivier Kugler met in Iraqi Kurdistan, Greece, Calais, England and Germany. The work was partly commissioned by Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières.
Illustrations from this series have been published in Harper's (USA), The Guardian and Port (UK), Le Monde Diplomatique (Germany), Internazionale (Italy) and Annabelle (Switzerland).
A portfolio of drawings documenting the circumstances of Syrians the artist met in Domiz refugee camp (Iraqi Kurdistan), became the overall winner of the World Illustration Award 2015 and was exhibited at Somerset House in London.
All of the exhibited artwork will be for sale. Half of the profits will be donated to Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières.
An 80-page book with drawings from the Escaping Wars and Waves project has just been published in German under the title Dem Krieg Entronnen.
In June 2018, the book will be published in the UK under the title 'Escaping Wars and Waves' by Myriad Editions / New Internationalist.
ESCAPING WARS AND WAVES received funding from the Arts Council England.

Things you should know
Join us for the Open House on Wed 6 Dec, at 6pm During the opening of the exhibition on Wed 6 Dec, there will be a brief Q&A (10 minutes) hosted by John L. Walters, the editor of Eye Magazine. Participants are Olivier Kugler, Catherine Thomé (MSF) and Corinne Pearlman (Myriad Editions).
