BATUKE! festival offers you an immersive experience of Afro-Luso culture. Open to all, participants can attend workshops, performances & social events as well as an Afro-marketplace. Participate in dance workshops open to all levels. Come to an evening of exciting dance showcases and a party led by international DJ Pasuas.

Now in its 9th edition, BATUKE! Festival will take place on Sun 26 Aug from midday!

Starting in the late morning, you can attend a variety of exciting workshops open to all levels in Afro Luso* partner dances like Kizomba* or Semba. Discover solo dances such as Soukouss, develop your body confidence with Ginga* class or join the amazing popularity of the Afrobeats and Kuduro movement. Delivered by renowned dancers and instructors from Angola, to New-York City!

*Afro – Luso = Dances and music from African countries that speak Portuguese such as Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, St Tome & Principe & Brazil.

*Kizomba = It’s a kind of Caribbean Tango, almost more popular than Salsa!

*Ginga = Hip and body movement class developed for women.

Experience an evening of Afro Luso music and dance.  Doors open at 9pm. By 9:30pm there will be a warm up Kizomba class, open to all levels,  with an Instructor from Studio Afro Latino dance academy. The night will be punctuated with performances in Kizomba and Semba and Afro by international & UK artists, MC’ed by festival director Iris De Brito. International guest Ivan Monteiro Pinheiro, better known as Dj Pausas, flown specially from Lisbon, plus London resident DJ B + special guest Sean Wilson from Kizomba Manchester will be playing a selection of Afro-Luso rhythms.

What to Expect

A unique festival offering workshops in various Afro-Luso dance styles during the day by professional dedicated instructors. Expect workshops filled with joy, discovery and challenge where you will be able to partner dance or learn new moves and at the end of the day be able to join the evening party and dance confidently. Learn about different cultures and lifestyles.

There will be the Batuke! festival African Market in the main space, it is open to families and lovers of African culture. The African Market will have stalls in fashion, natural products and food as well as children's performances.
