In a nutshell
Pop star Alexander Geist presents a morose disco floorshow, it’s dance theatre for the demimonde.
“Think Michael Clark via Grace Jones, Merce Cunningham by way of Madonna, it's Trajal Harrell meets Talking Heads, it's a eulogy for the lost AIDS generation”
Alexander Geist presents Any Instant Whatsoever, a one-off spectacle that will mimic the style of a pop concert, at Rich Mix on - fittingly - Friday 13th! As part of 2017’s And What? queer art festival, this show is inspired by the relationship between London and Berlin’s increasingly threatened underground gay scenes. As queer spaces continue to vanish one-by-one, is it too late to fight back? Is true love still a possibility? But the show is above all an indulgent homage to Alexander Geist’s 1980s pop muses and a launch party for his new single ‘Far Worse’.
Any Instant Whatsoever, is a live assemblage as Geist and his homoerotic dancers push “the limits of a pop concert” and bath in “the gestural language of pop stardrom” (imagine an aesthetic melange of Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense, David Bowie’s Cracked Actor and Madonna’s Blonde Ambition Tour) Singing songs from his debut album ‘Hello Lover’, Alexander Geist will also perform his forthcoming single ‘Far Worse’ (out on October 2nd), the video to which he shot on Berlin’s leather scene this summer. This experimental and heavily stylised show is his ONLY UK DATE, and post-Brexit he may never return!

What to Expect
Any Instant Whatsoever is a dance theatre performance piece, soundtracked by the original music of pop star Alexander Geist. Geist and his dancers perform the material which makes up his debut album Hello Lover, against a hypnotic light and video design. Marrying all the crotch grabs, hip grinding, and vicious spins of rock’s favourite artists to a poetic narrative sensibility, Any Instant Whatsoever challenges the form and content of the classic pop concert.
A beloved icon of Berlin’s demi-monde, Alexander Geist is the velvet voice of a morosedisco soul; his melodramatic lyrics and insistent melodies, he has performed worldwide, showcasing his charismatic stage persona in such iconic venues as Berliner Festspiele, and the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói (Rio), La Java (Paris), the V&A (London), and Casa da Musica (Porto). He is especially proud to have been invited by David Bowie’s team to perform at the vernissage of Bowie Is… at Martin-Gropius-Bau. Last year he played the lead role in Deutsche Oper's new opera GIANNI. His new single ‘Far Worse’ is out on Oct 2.
