After two years of regular sell out events at Rich Mix, Tamasha are back with a rehearsed reading of a 40 minute extract of a new play in development.’
“Be a Mother India. Serve your nation. Your children.”
In a surrogacy clinic in Gujurat, three women meet. Londoner Eva is in motherhood’s last chance saloon – her only hope to have her eggs extracted, fertilised with her late husband’s sperm, and implanted into another woman’s womb. For village girl Aditi, dairy worker and single mother, surrogacy is a lifeline out of poverty for herself and her own young daughters. For clinic owner and businesswoman Dr Gupta, it’s all just another transaction. But set on the fault lines of profound global forces, can it possibly remain that simple?
Mother India is a thrilling new play about motherhood and blood ties between women and nations in a brave new world.
This Scratch has been produced and directed by Pooja Ghai.
