Chinese New Year Celebrations 2013

Sun 3 February - Sun 3 February 11am - 5pm
Free / Main Space

KUNG HEI FAT CHOY! (A common greeting people say to each other during the Chinese New Year, which means ‘May you prosper!’)

Free and open to all, this event aims to be an occasion in which people from different communities and cultures join together and share the joy of the Chinese New Year.

You will have the chance to see a number of high quality cultural performances, including:

• Lion dance and Chinese martial arts performed by the Jimmy Lee's UK Pak Mei Kung Fu Club
• Traditional Chinese music ensemble played by the UK Chinese Ensemble led by world-famous pipa (4-stringed Chinese lute) performer Dr Cheng Yu
• Chinese folk dance performed by the award-winning Harrow Chinese School Dance Group
• Music from recently premiered 'Snapshots', an autobiographical work composed by the superlative multi-instrumentalist Liz Chi Yen Liew and performed by herself (piano, violin) and Dennis Kwong Thye Lee (xiao - flute, guzheng - zither).

Also try delicious Chinese food and purchase arts and craft products at our charity stalls, or join our children's arts workshops (watercolour painting and sand painting)!

This event is supported by Tower Hamlets Council, East End Community Foundation, News International and SeeWoo Foods Limited.
