Led by American trombonist Jerome Harper, Brassroots is a 7-piece powerhouse group of horn/drum smiths packed with boundless energy and a musical concept that catapults the brassband genre into another dimension.
With support from MIMIKA MME
MIMIKA MME, dubbed "Balkan Space Jazz" by Time Out magazine is lead by the Croatian composer Mak Murti? and presents intricate, mind-expanding jazz compositions about cosmic migrations and cultural evolution for a 14-piece brass orchestra.
It is inspired by the likes of Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Balkan Brass Music, East Asian music and progressive urban styles. Currently the band is working on its first theatre production about humans expanding their reach onto the planet Mars. For the Jazz Festival, the group will perform it with the aid of Emiliano Pasini, who created live video projections about the concepts using long forgotten images of space and time and sampling movies and documentaries from the 1930s onwards in a new creative set of scenes.
