20-Year Anniversary Tour: The Classics of Bollywood
The Bollywood Brass Band are joined by celebrated Pakistani singer Rafaqat Ali Khan, to pay tribute to 60 years of Indian and Pakistani film soundtracks.
Celebrating their 20th anniversary, the Bollywood Brass Band are still blowing strong! Their tunes have been covered by Serbian Gypsy trumpet king Boban Markovic, they’ve appeared at countless street festivals and shows, and their album Chaiyya Chaiyya was nominated for this year’s Songlines Music Award. For this special show featuring the powerful and evocative voice of Rafaqat Ali Khan they do what no other band does – synch themselves to the videos of the original songs from the classic Bollywood movies, which are projected on Rich Mix’s massive screen for a visual and aural feast. It’s a performance that is by turns passionate, tender, dramatic, and humorous, leaving the audience truly spellbound – and dancing.
Songs include AR Rahman’s Chaiyya Chaiyya from the film ‘Dil Se’ (the video of Shahrukh Khan dancing on top of a moving train is an all time classic) Mohammed Rafi favourites Chura Liya and Gulabi Aankhen both from the RD Burman songbook, a dramatic rendition of Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi, Indian cinema’s first dream sequence from ’Awaara’ based on an Umm Kalthumm classic from 1935, and Kehnde ne Naina, originally sung by Noor Jehan, the queen of Pakistani playback singers. To watch these performed by the Bollywood Brass Band with the original films is a treat indeed!
From 8pm ARHAI deliver an uplifting fusion of electronic music with Balkan folk influences performed to inspirational live projection. DJ Ritu (A World In London) is one of London’s leading DJs of Asian and World Music.
A Kazum & Global Local production.
