This workshop gives professional dancers an opportunity to practice and develop their acting skills. It seeks to equip them with a set of experiences and techniques related to both devised and text-based work.
It emphasises the use of the voice, creating character and storytelling in a variety of dramatic contexts. The workshop will also attempt to identify ways in which dancer’s can draw on their particular skills to create dramatic/acting-based work. The workshop will follow a structure flexible enough to respond to participant’s individual questions and interests.
The workshop will be facilitated by Arne Pohlmeier, a freelance director based in London. He is currently exploring the intersections between theatre and dance and will be showcasing a movement-based production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at the Rich Mix on March 3. He is particularly interested in using classic texts as points of departure for vibrant, fully embodied performance. His two-man, Zimbabwean production of Two Gentlemen of Verona will be premiered at Shakespeare’s Globe on May 9, 2012.
The workshops are designed as 6 individual sessions, so people can come to any or all. Different topics will be covered in each session.
