Autumn Season Launches 1 September

As well as being the name of our amazing monthly showcase of the UK’s best musical remix talent, the phrase Global Local perhaps best describes Rich Mix’s autumn programme.

Our season kicks off on 1 September with a world-class evening of Cuban Rumba and ends on 30 October with Brazilian drumming from Umbela Arts.

Like a third of our programme, the two events that bookend our season are free to attend. In between these two Latin parties, we’ll be featuring musical offerings from Somalia, Spain, India, Finland, and Nepal. Still, we remain rooted in London, and welcome globally-focused nights from local residents Afrikokoa, Numbi, the Shrine, Lake of Stars and Radio Gagarin.

Bethnal Green-based brass behemoths Brassroots continue their monthly residency, and we’ve introduced Allsortz, a brand new night offering emerging talent a platform to perform, and Smile - Rich Mix’s very own
acoustic night.

It’s not all about music though, and we’re continuing our mission to make Rich Mix the London home of spoken word. Our season begins on 2 September with a special tribute to the late great Gil Scott Heron, and in early October we play host to the second South Asian Literature Festival. As well as these one-off specials, we continue to host regular nights Tongue Fu, Jawdance and Maintenant Magazine, and are delighted to announce that London Liming joins that illustrious roster. Expect a carnival night in which people can mix, drink, dance, and be
introduced to the best literature and spoken word around.

Our theatre programme also marries the global with the local. Teatro da Curva bring their Brazilian take on Voltaire’s Candide, whilst BE - Birmingham’s International Theatre Festival, cherry picks the best European work for a London audience. Closer to home, Tower Hamlets’ Half Moon Theatre bring us their latest production, Look to the Sky.

Dance continues with Akademi and Pagrav Dance serving up South Asian flavours and associate company Tempered Body Dance show their latest work.

In short, there’s more than enough to justify making Rich Mix your new local for the best in arts and culture from
home and abroad.
